My process started by drawing out what I wanted to sculpt. Then I started by drawing my design and carving the everything but the lines I drew. Once I realized my design wouldn't work I started to change it up and started carving some of the lines off. Finally once I was done carving I began to paint my piece red and pink. The obstacles I had to overcome was changing my piece after I was done carving it. I overcame it by just winging it and cutting out the piece I didn't need and it actually worked. I picked the colors I did because I thought the pink and the red went really well together and I wanted to do the pink, so I had to do the red. I found that my piece is able to stand by its own and I think that it is very successful.
I found that my orange slice that was left out of the orange was most successful because it actually resembles an orange slice. It also fit very well if you were to put it back in the orange to make it a whole orange. I would probably change the peel or the outside of the orange because when I colored it, it made it look like a pumpkin. Some advice I would give to someone starting this project is to make sure you have all the correct measurements so that your piece is even and put lots of hot glue when putting pieces together so that they stay together.
The artist I choose is named Taiichiro Yoshida and he lives in Tokyo, Japan. He makes metal sculptures that are animals and insects. The animals are made out of metal flowers and leaves. He went and got his bachelor's and master's degree in metal carving at Tokyo University of Arts. His work really inspires me because it is mostly black and white but when he adds the flowers and butterflies it really adds pops of color to his artwork. I think all the flowers, leaves, and butterflies together that make up the whole animal really drew me in. Something else that drew me in was that the animals actually look realistic.

2. I've found that most of the putting together of my piece is successful, but the difficult part of it is gluing. the slices of my orange together. |
