In Progress:Pros: I really like the mountains and how they actually look mountains, with the texture and shape. I also like the the caribou silhouette, I think it came out very realistic. I also like the shape of the mug. Cons: I don't really like the size of the mug. I also don't like the foot on the mug, it made it hard to get the detail into the crevice. Process: First I threw my mug until I liked the shape. Once I got a shape I then let it get leather hard so that I could trim it. After I trimmed it I added a smaller handle that I thought fit the mug very well. Then I got slip and a spatula used to mix paint and layed on the slip, made to look like mountains. Once I noticed that there was a empty spot on the mug I decided to carve a caribou silhouette onto it. Then I added one texture onto the handle to make it look better. Final:

In Progress:Pros: I really like the size and shape of the mug. I also like the dimension the piece gives with the layers of the larger trees and the the rocks. I also really like the details of the water. The trees look very realistic. Cons: I do not like the shape of the handle. I think it is too square and does not really look like a handle. Process: Once I got the desired shape of my mug, I then let it sit out to get leather hard. Once it was leather hard I then tried it. Once it was trimmed I then added the handle to the mug. I then began carving an outline of the mountains and the lake that is in the reference image. Once I finished the outlines I added the trees using a pencil. Finally I added the rocks that are in the front of the reference image. Final:In Progress:Pros: I really like the way the fish turned out. I like how they are both very symmetric. I also like the wood detail on the fences, the post, and the handle. I also really like the size and shape of the mug. Cons: I do not like the handle that I put on the mug I think it is to square of a shape and is kind of hard to hold. Process: This mug was very easy to throw because it allowed the wheel to easily make it bigger. After I was done throwing the mug I let it get leather ar before I trimmed it. After I trimmed it I then used water color and spun the mug on the wheel and made a straight line so that I could map out where the fence and post was going to go. After I got the straight lines, I then went and carved the fence details onto the mug. I also added the fish details to the mug. Final:In Progress:Pros: I really like the shape and size of this jar. I also really like the texture of the sand. I think I did a good job on the detail of the shark's teeth. I also really like the shape of the lid, I think it goes perfectly with the jar. Cons: I failed to make this a mug but I think it works better as a jar. The lid is also too heavy for the handle that I made it. Process: I threw this piece until I got my desired size and then I let it get leather hard so I can trim it. Once it was trimmed, I then decided that it would be better as a jar rather than a mug. I then carved a line separating the beach from the ocean. I then began to carve in the different styles of shark's teeth. Once I was done I added the texture of the sand using a file, finally I added the carvings of the water texture. Final:In Progress:Pros: I like the detail in the water and the details of the bush. I also like the 3d element of the bush. I like the waves I put around the nose of the manatee. I also like the shape of the manatee. Cons: I do not like the nose of the manatee, I do not think it looks very realistic. It also did not attach to the mug very easily. I think the handle might be too thin for the mug. Process: I first threw the mug, even though it was very thin I still let it get leather hard before I trimmed it. After I trimmed it I then added a thin handle that I thought would go perfectly with it. Then I traced the body of the manatee, leaving out the nose. Once I carved it deeper I then added the nse and the little waves around it to make it look like the nose was out of the water. I then added the texture for hte water to make it look like the manatee was swimming. Finally I added the bush with slip and a sponge, to make it look like a real bush. Final:In Progress:Pros: I really like the shape of this mug. It is very different from all my other mugs. I also really like the size of it. I think the simple handle goes very well with the curvature of the mug. I also think that the clouds match perfectly with the reference image that I have. Cons: I do not like the way that the rock mounds came out. I had trouble making them look 3-dimensional. I also had difficulty making the carvings deep because of the curvature of the mug. Process: Once I got my desired height for my mug I then pinched into it twice so the it formed a bubble like belly in the middle. Once it got leather hard I then trimmed it. Once it was trimmed I added a simple handle so that it would not take away from the shape of the mug. Then I began to carve the clouds to match my reference image. Then I began to carve the rock mounds, shading in the area to show dimension in my piece. I then began to carve the horizontal lines along the mounds. Finally I added thicker lines to add some variety. Final:In Progress:Pros: I really like the shape of the jar, even though I decided to change it to a jar instead of a mug. I also like how the details on it represent the image very well. I also really like the details of the water and how it shows the difference from the rock. Cons: I do not like the details on the rock. I could not figure out how to do it so I left them smooth. I also don't like that the top is lopsided. Process: When I threw this mug I made it very short but still wanted it to have a different shape so it makes it very small. After I threw it then I it, I then let it sit until it got leather hard. After I trimmed it I then started to make the design on it. I first carved the outline of the rocks and where the bushes are going to go. Once I got a light line of where the rocks go, I went and made it deeper. Once I got the outline of the rock then I went in and made the water details that goes with all of m other pieces. Finally I added slip and used a sponge to make the bush details and make it a more 3d element onto the jar. Final: |
